About Us

The Department of Fundamental and Applied Mathematics was created on the basis of the departments "Economic Cybernetics and Probability Theory" and "Higher Mathematics" on October 20, 2017.

The Department of Economic Cybernetics and Probability Theory was opened on February 1, 2008. From 2008 to 2017, the department was headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Malinkovsky Yuri Vladimirovich.

The Department of Higher Mathematics was founded at Gomel State University in 1975. From 1975 to 1977, the department was headed by Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Leonid Aleksandrovich Shemetkov. From 1977 to 1984 the department was headed by the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor Starun Ivan Ivanovich. From 1984 to 2017, the department was headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Semenchuk Vladimir Nikolaevich.

The department is graduating in the following specialties:
1-31 03 06-01 "Economic Cybernetics (Mathematical Methods and Computer Modeling in Economics)";

The specialty "Economic Cybernetics" was opened in 2004.
In the process of training in the specialty "Economic Cybernetics", the specialist receives:
- fundamental mathematical training supporting the use of cybernetic approaches, methods of statistical analysis and forecasting for the study of economic systems, phenomena and processes;
- basic economic training, which allows you to work in the future in the field of enterprise management, marketing, financial management and accounting;
- deep skills of effective application of modern computer technologies in solving a wide range of problems of modeling and management of complex economic and social systems.
For the organization of the educational process in the specialty "economic cybernetics" the Faculty of Mathematics has the necessary material and technical base. The faculty has 4 computer classes for 70 workplaces, equipped with modern computer technology.

The department manages the specialization 1-31 03 01-02 01 "Methods of teaching mathematics and computer science" at the correspondence faculty.
